Big Bend Landscapes (Joe and Betty Moore Texas Art Series, 12)
Published in Hardcover by Texas A&M University Press (November, 2002)
Authors: Dennis Blagg and Ron Tyler
Average review score:

A joy to simply page through at leisure
Big Bend Landscapes by Texas painter Dennis Blagg is a breathtaking, coffee-table artbook of oil on canvas landscapes so captivating, they seize and hold one's attention as surely as the finest of photographs. Mood, mystery, natural serenity in the Big Bend National Park of Texas fill these compiled outdoor paintings austere mountains and dry deserts with a very special dignity and beauty. A joy to simply page through at leisure, each individual painting is enhanced with a brief but informative commentary in this outstanding and memorable collection.

In Love with Landscapes
Unique landscape artist, Dennis Blagg, shares selected paintings and drawings of West Texas. He captures more than the camera can and his style evokes a viseral response. Perhaps you must have "been there, done that" to appreciate that each one is a gift. Blagg also shares brief notes with each entry. That adds a personal touch with a underlying theme of conservation for this special landscape. I must confess I skipped right past the introduction by Ron Tyler and straight to the views of the Chisos that I can't get out of my mind.

Big Bend Landscapes is a feast for the heart and soul for all you Big Bend National Park lovers out there and believe me there's a lot of them. Dive into all the moods of the desert and let it carry you away. I just returned from a trip to Big Bend on Feb 25, 2003 and my question is "Was it real or was it Blagg?" Make the book purchase and do the trip and you be the judge.

The Big Blue House Call (Bear in the Big Blue House)

What Children's Books Should Be
Too often these days children's books and tv shows are simply aimed at keeping a child's eyes glued to a colorful page or to a screen, without much thought to imaginative stories or to helping a child to learn or adapt. Not so with this opus. The subtle, fun, and funny narrative cannot but succeed in infusing in the child reader the importance of going to the doctor and of conquering his or her fears of health care. Although Kiki Thorpe and Tom Brannon do a great job in bringing this into book form, it should be noted that this book is adapted from a "Bear" episode written by the talented Chris Moore, whom Thomas Bonfiglio once called, "The best children's writer since A.A. Milne." I only wish more of his work was available.

Everything Your Child Wants to Know About the Doctor
This book is an excellent choice for explaining your child's visit to the dotor. It covers everything from eye charts to vaccinations. Bear rids Ojo of fear of shots in a simple way that works for your own little ones. The other characters are enthusiastic about their check-ups, which I believe is a great example and very influential to our children. If I could share one book before a doctor's visit with any child, this would be it. Light hearted yet full of information kids can relate to, this is one of the best "Bear" book yet!

Biology
Published in Hardcover by Prentice Hall (K-12) (June, 1996)
Authors: Bernice Essenfeld, Carol Gontang, and Randy Moore
Average review score:

This book is like, the best!
I would like everyone to know that this book is super great. I was like so confused at first, but now everything is crystal clear. I learned that fertilization in a plant occurs in it's uterus and after gastrulation occurs the spores shoot out of the carpel and undergo a meiotic phase called the acrosomal stage. So like, if you're stumped about which bio book to get, you should totally get this one!

A superb laboratory manual.
The Biology Laboratory Manual by Guttman, Vodopich, Johnson, Raven, and Moore provides an easy to follow approach to introductory biology. It features many activities that can be completed on average between 2 and 3 hours. There are many photos and diagrams that are in full color, many pre-laboratory type questions, and a good amount of questions that are best answered during lab or after lab. This book is ideal for an advanced high school biology course or a freshman or sophomore college biology class. Unlike a fair amount of the laboratory texts out there, this one accompanies most biology books very well. Thus, the laboratory portion of class tends to blend very well with the lecture portion.

Birth of the Multinational: 2000 Years of Ancient Business History- From Ashur to Augustus
Published in Hardcover by Copenhagen Business School Press (July, 1999)
Authors: Karl Moore and David Lewis
Average review score:

Excellent Economic History
Mr. Lewis and his co-author are not only great authors (their book is full of knowledge about an area of history that are often ignored in other economic history books), but Mr. Lewis happens to be a friend of mine (we go to the same church and he has given me great instruction on economic history). I am not a historian (but an amataur history student), and though the material was technical (I would recommend this especially to people either taking courses in economic history or who are interested in the subject)but it is thorough and complete. I am waiting for the next two volumes in the three volume series of economic history books.

Exceptionally well researched and a fascinating topic!
I found it fascinating: exceptionally well researched and an fascinating topic. I will be quoting from it extensively. Great achievement!

The Bread Sister of Sinking Creek
Published in Paperback by Harpercollins Juvenile Books (October, 1992)
Author: Robin Moore
Average review score:

The sister you always wanted
Wait Wait Her mom's sick so she goes up in the mountains to see her aunt who even isn't there? Well at least she as her spook yeast. What is spook yeast you ask. And who helps her along the way. There is only one way to find out... so read this awesome book.

Excellent historical fiction piece, STRONG female as hero
The first of the Robin Moore trilogy of Maggie, and her adventures in early Pennsylvania. The strong female character is a wonderful role model for adolescent girls. Yet, many boys in my class are avidly reading the sequel, when Maggie is captured by the Seneca Indians. An exciting story, where the characters have a real depth, beyond what is generally available in children's fiction.

The author visited our elementary school, did workshops for our students, and told them to write from what they knew. All of these events relate to his family's history, of growing up in this ten mile area. As an author, he respects children, and values their ideas. By never talking down to them, he has made the life of Maggie Callahan come alive with a richness of the English language.

It is rare that a book can make you visualize exactly what you are reading, and in such detail.

Yes, most of my fourth graders, who are also hooked on Harry Potter are now finding a parallel universe in the Bread Sister Trilogy.

Merchant Marine Bible of World War II
Wonderful research went into this book. Should be in every library for World War II research. Only book that gives facts of the United States Merchant Marine and U.S. Navy Armed Guard and of the horrific losses suffered by each service during WW II.

A survivor of WWII merchant marine praises this highly.
Robert Cusick, a survivor of WWII merchant ships, says of this book, "It was as if the sky had opened." This history does for the merchant marine what combat historians have done for the foot soldier.

IT TAKE TO LONG
I DID NOT RECIVETHE BOOK I JUST WANT TO NO WHY IT TAKE LONG TO GET THE BOOK I NEED THIS BOOK TO HEIP ME WITH MY CNA,CAN YOU TELL ME WHY.

Excellent! Best Book Available To Study For CNA Exams
This is a great book. It has questions and answers that are given on all state board exams. It does not have pictures showing you how to wash your hands correctly, weight patients, change oxygen bottles, how to make up a bed with the patient in the bed, or how to carry bed linens properly, etc. These things you learned in your classroom or in the care facility where you took your training. It is a wonderful book that helps you to brush-up on the types of questions being asked in every state in the USA, especially if you have been away from your profession and wish to take the exam again for re-qualification and certification.

Chemistry for Dummies
Published in Paperback by For Dummies (November, 2002)
Author: John T. Moore
Average review score:

Great book
This book is very informative and to the point. The examples and analogies are perfect to the content explained. The author actually makes it fun to learn chemistry, and makes you want to pursue a future in it (I'm going into Chem. Engineering). Like most books this doesn't put you to sleep with boring facts after facts. This is recommended to any high school student or beginner of college, and will give you a good head start.

First class book
I've tried to read various "beginner" books on chemistry since coming back from a twenty-one year science sabbatical. This one is by far the best.

The author takes you from the very basic "what is an atom" and "how to read the periodic table" to more advanced concepts such as Nuclear Chemistry, with consumate ease. The book throughout is structured for the (nearly) absolute beginner, with few assumptions being made about your beginning level of knowledge.

My only gripe is that he doesn't quite explain chemistry symbology in as clear a manner as he does most topics - hopefully this can be rectified for the reprint.

In short: an excellent book for the beginner. The only "pre" knowledge you'll need is the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. If you can't do that what are you doing trying to learn chemistry?

I've yet to take General Chemistry I at college but this will probably act as a good primer. I'd expect you'll need to do some more work and look at a textbook before going onto studying at college. This book will, however, give you the basic information you need to get going.

Class Action Dilemmas: Pursuing Public Goals for Private Gain
Published in Paperback by RAND (September, 2000)
Authors: Deborah R. Hensler, Nicholas M. Pace, Bonita Dombey-Moore, Beth Giddens, Jennifer Gross, and Erik K. Moller
Average review score:

Transparent and Balanced Research
This study is likely to remain the last word on class action research for some time to come. The depth and breadth of this study is extraordinary - and so are its revelations.

This is by any standard a major piece of work and we are fortunate that the RAND Institute for Civil Justice has the resources to publish it so fully. The substantial appendices contain much of the detail about methodologies, data collection and calculations that usually have to be omitted from law review articles. Readers can judge for themselves the thoroughness of the researchers and the accuracy of calculations supporting many of their assertions and assumptions.

At heart of this study is the question whether the policing of the public interst and public safety ought to be a function of the state or of "private attorneys general". The study is largely non-judgmental - although you may conclude that this research suggests an answer. There is plenty of ammunition for both points of view to be found in this book.

It is a treasury of fascinating facts about this kind of litigation. It includes the revelation that some attorneys were remunerated at the rate of $2,000 per hour for their efforts - and to think that we thought only mergers and acquisitions lawyers could aspire to that kind of reward!

The only criticism I have to make is that the executive summary that RAND publishes separately is not contained in the book. That is a useful document and its inclusion here would not have added substantially to publication costs but would have enhanced the final product.

An indepth, benchmark study.
Class Action Dilemmas: Pursuing Public Goals For Private Gain is the collaborative effort of Deborah R. Hensler, Nicholas, M. Pace, Bonita Dombey-Moore, Beth Giddens, Jennifer Gross, and Erik K. Moller under the auspices of the Rand Corporation's "Institute for Civil Justice". This in-depth, benchmark study examines newly compiled information about class action law suits and offers a thoughtful discussion of current trends in mass litigation and their implications for the future. Data was collected from extensive interviews with case participants, various electronic sources, court records, and other legal documents. Commentary on the federal class action rule is also reviewed along with the most recent attempt to revise the rule. The contributors discuss the history of the controversy of class action law suits, and present ten illustrative case studies. In addition, proposals for options for reform that may improve the balance of public good and private gain are offered for consideration. Class Action Dilemmas is a very highly recommended addition to professional, governmental, academic, and judicial reference libraries.
